What is a BER?

example of a Building Energy Rating (BER)BER certificate exampleThis A BER (Building Energy Rating) is similar to the energy label for a household electrical appliance like your fridge.
The label has a scale of A1 (most energy efficient )) to G (least energy efficient)

BER assessments performed on new dwellings will also help determine compliance to Part L of the Building Regulations. Building Energy Ratings (BERs) are required for all New Dwellings that applied for planning permission after 1st January 2007.  Also all  Existing Buildings (dwellings and other buildings) when offered for sale or let will also require a BER from 1st  January 2009

Only Registered BER Assessors can carry out an official BER assessment and it must be submitted to SEI for publication on the national Register of BER Assessments
